What is a Member?

A member is an individual who maintains a $5 savings balance with GECU. This makes him or her eligible for all of our many financial services; it also gives him or her an equal ownership share and one vote. At Greater Eastern Credit Union, every accountholder is actually a member and an owner.

Are you eligible to become a member?

If you meet one of the following qualifiers you are eligible to join Greater Eastern Credit Union. Still not sure if you qualify for membership? Call us and we will be happy to help.

  • You live, work, worship or attend school in Washington, Carter or Unicoi County
  • You are currently employed or retired from a government employer and live or work in Greene and/or Sullivan County
  • If you are an immediate family member of a current GECU member

How do I become a member?

Visit us at one of our branches to complete a membership application. The savings account must be opened with a minimum deposit of $5 and there is a one time membership fee of $1. Once this quick process is complete, you will have access to all of our great products and services.

What if I become a member and then move away?

The great thing about membership at Greater Eastern Credit Union is that "once a member, always a member." Just because you don't live close to a GECU branch doesn’t mean that you can’t benefit from our great products and services. Especially in today's world filled with technology, such as Debit Cards, Online Banking, Text Banking, and Bill Pay, it is easier to stay connected while away from the area.

How to Join?

Greater Eastern Credit Union is committed to giving personal service to our members. We want to know you by name. We believe in developing a relationship with our members so that we can tailor our products and services to best fit each unique member’s financial needs. All it takes is a completed application form, photo identification, a $5.00 deposit in a primary savings account and a one-time $1.00 membership fee to join.
